Heading into January 2012...
The winds of change are flowing. Ebooks have taken a major step forward even though there are still paper book lovers. Some of my fans seek paper books along with their ebook versions. I don't know why, but there is just something comfortable and homey about holding a paper book in ones hands.
With the ebook revolution well under way, readers are using their iphones, droids and other hand held devices to read anywhere and everywhere they can. This is wonderful in many ways.
Will there still be book signings? How will authors sign books on an iphone? This is a question I ask myself quite often. This past fall, I participated in several art and craft festivals with the hope of selling my books. Sales were good. It was amazing how many buyers bought the paper versions rather than a cd they could download onto their computer and reader.
As technology progresses, it is less likely paper books will be available in great quantities. So much for box store sales! However, there are wonderful print on demand companies that still do small runs. So....never fear paper book lovers, there is hope.
Several years ago, I wrote a home party how-to manual which has sat in a drawer and gathered cobwebs. It has now come in handy, so I will tweak it and put it out on the internet for those interested in how to make a home party biz work.
A friend, and fellow author, and I have come up with an innovative idea that puts a new spin on the home party/meet the author idea. Stay tuned for more information. We are only in the preliminary stages of this project, but I think it can work! We, as authors, need to take our promo efforts to the next horizon or we will be left in the dust by those more forward thinkers.
